POSITION: Outgoing Lakes coach Todd Edwards. Picture: Josh CallinanLAKESpresident Paul Jeffries expects to make a final decision in the “next little while” after interviewing each of the five applicants left in the race to coach the Seagulls in 2019.
Jeffries said the nominations had been “whittled down” over the last week and Lakes officials would forma small sub-committee before making a “recommendation”to the board.
“We’re pretty happy [with the applications],” Jeffries told the Newcastle Herald on Wednesday. “Hopefully we can announce someone sooner rather than later.”
It comes as current Seagulls coach Todd Edwards, who has been linked with former club Cessnock for next season, was recently granted leave from the second year of his contract on compassionate grounds.
ROUND 14 FIXTURES: Macquarie v Kurri Kurri, Maitland v Western Suburbs (Saturday); South Newcastle v Cessnock, Central Newcastle v Lakes (Sunday).

Phil Williams, who was last week announced as coach of clubside Central for next year,and Macquarie’s Adam Bettridge are the incumbent senior and emerging men’s Rebels mentors.
